Anybody ever heard of the "50 Mile Rule" with regard to cheating?

I hadn't until I was introduced to it through the joys of online dating. A lot of the men online that I chatted with were looking to cheat.

I know…hard to believe!



Anyway, some of these guys said they had no problem cheating as long as they stuck to the "50 Mile Rule". Hmmm…obviously not "up to speed" on proper extramarital etiquette, I looked it up.

Is love really blind?

I once knew a woman back in my hometown who swore up and down that only way to cheat on your husband without getting caught was to do it in plain sight!

She maintained that whenever her husband questioned about her whereabouts or who she was talking to on the phone, honesty was always the best policy!

Just tell him the truth!

The truth? Are you nuts?

No. If you tell your husband the truth, he won't believe you anyway and, you don't have to stress out over coming up with an "alibi" on the spot. No stories to keep straight, no lies to remember…it's easy!



I thought she was crazy but after years of observation, I am convinced that she was on to something!

While "Molly" loved her husband, she also loved sex - a lot - and felt that life was just too darn short to be deprived of anything that brought you pleasure.

Hmmm…a valid argument when you put it that way don't you think?

If her husband questioned her as to who she was talking with on the phone so long, she would say:

"Oh, that was my boyfriend" or…

"That was "Bob"…we were planning our next roll in the hay." (I actually witnessed this.) She was telling her husband the 100 percent, honest to goodness TRUTH! She and "Bob" were planning to get together at the big "Grey Cup" party the following weekend!

Her husband, watching a game on TV just laughed it off and ask for another beer!!!

How was this possible? Did he not consider for one second that Molly may be telling him the truth? Did he trust her that much? Or…did he know what she was up to and just not care?

As for the "get together" at the Grey Cup party? Molly pulled it off with no trouble at all. An hour or two into the festivities, alcohol and "The Big Game" fever had taken over. No one even noticed that she and "Bob" were missing for a half an hour.

You know, I lived in that little town for 12 years and never, to my knowledge, did Molly ever get caught cheating on her husband. If he knew, he never let on.

When I left, "Molly and Larry" were still happily married.

Is love truly blind?

Or just dumb?

I thought that I would check out the Ashley Madison Agency to see what was special about it.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Ashley Madison Agency, it is a web site that caters to a sometimes overlooked but growing dating niche…married dating. Yup, dating isn't just for singles anymore.

Since the site has gained a lot of media attention since it's inception back in 2002, I guess I was expecting something unique.

To be honest, I would have to say that I was disappointed and totally uninspired by my visit. Here's my overall impression…

The Pros…

• You can create a free profile - no credit card info is need.
• You are not required to give your name or your address so anonymity is guaranteed.
• You only reveal information about yourself when the time is right for you.
• The dating service caters to people in the US, Canada, UK and Ireland.
• There is this cute little "panic button" at the top of the page that allows you to "escape" to a sales page for a Fax Machine should someone enter the room.
• Although you can purchase a 3 or 6 month membership which allows you to initiate contact with others, you can also "pay as you play" buying credits as you need them which might be cheaper. You can purchase 100 credits for $55. An email message to a new contact costs you 5 credits while a 20 minute instant messaging session will cost you 10 credits.

The Cons…

• I found the site design to be very amateurish and unappealing. I guess it shouldn't matter, but it did to me. Maybe I just hate the color purple, I don't know.
• The profiles were uninformative, focusing mainly on what type of sexual encounter you are looking for. I guess that stands to reason though. The purpose of the site is to help you find your next "roll in the hay" not a soul mate. Who cares if you're into surfing right?
• Photos are rare on this site so there's not a lot to look at. You have to initiate contact based on profiles and unfortunately, many of them have little or no original content on them. Doesn't give you a lot to go on. Call me superficial, but I want to see who I am talking to because, I am sorry, but, looks do matter! Even if it's only a one night stand. Who wants to waste time chatting with someone only to find out, you really can't stand looking at them?

On the bright side, if you are married and looking, want anonymity and results, check out the Ashley Madison Agency.

I signed up yesterday. I put absolutely nothing in my profile and I already have 26 messages:

"I can't wait to show you…
How I am going to rock your world!"

Just because I wasn't impressed with Ashley Madison…doesn't mean you won't be! They must be doing something right…they've been around for 5 years.
