In Love With Two Men At Once – POTC

Okay…this one is just for fun.

Is it possible to love two people at once?

I know that “The Pirates Of The Caribbean” is just a movie but every movie has some basis in real life. This issue of loving two people at the same time does come up time and time again in real life.

For those of you who are “high and mighty” come down from your soap box and join the fun. This is all hypothetical, no harm done! Now, you say that if you truly love someone than you cannot be tempted? You will never stray?

I disagree! I do not think that anyone, male or female, no matter how well intended they are is infallible. Even the best of the best can be swayed if the circumstances are right.

Now in this “hypothetical” case between the classic “bad boy” Captain Jack Sparrow, the beautiful “never meant to hurt you – caught in the middle” Elizabeth Swann and the all too familiar “nice guy”, Will Turner, who do you think will win?

Are you familiar with the saying “nice guys finish last”?

Elizabeth knows in her heart that Will is the better of the two men when it comes to making a good life choice. He is handsome, loving, sensitive and dependable. He would probably make a great father too. What else could any woman possibly hope for?

Ahh…put then there is Jack. He is nothing but a drop dead gorgeous rogue. He is charming, selfish, and anything but reliable. He wants what he wants and he expects to get it…and does!

So what makes him so damned appealing? Pure animal magnetism. Women are drawn to him because of his wild side not in spite of it. The danger, the adventure, the excitement of the unknown, living on the edge, it is a pure heart pounding, adrenaline rush! Very sexy!

Is Jack a good choice? Of course not! His love for Elizabeth cannot overcome who he is. He cannot be tamed. He loves her, yes, but he can never be there for her. The call of the wild is too strong in him. She may dream of taming him and living happily ever after but, truth be known, she would not like the “tamed” Captain Jack.

So, does Elizabeth truly love two different men? Yes, I think she does but for very different reasons. Will keeps her grounded and safe while Jack appeals to her inner yearnings for raw, unbridled passion.

Who will win? Well, according to Captain Jack Sparrow…

“You will come over to my side. You won’t be able to resist. You will want to know what it’s like…”

And do you know what? He’s probably right. It happens more often than you think!
