Screwed Up Baby Boomers

Today a good friend came to visit me at work. A husband, and father of three teenagers, he plunked himself in a chair in front of me and asked if there was any evening work available with our company.

Since he had recently changed jobs for better pay, I was of course, surprised. When I asked why he would want a second job, he laughed and said he just needed more money.

I know that he is a typical homeowner, sports fan and avid hunter, so I just figured that he wanted to buy some new “toy” like a four-wheeler or something for the kids.

“Why? What do you want to buy?” I asked.

“It’s not what I am getting, it’s what I am losing…”

Uh-oh! And another one bites the dust!

Yes! One more pair “Baby Boomers” enters into the “happily never after” and one more set of siblings are destined to play “the game”.

The ex’s will struggle with financial issues while the kids fast learn how to play one parent against the other in an effort to get the biggest bang for their buck! With divided parents vying for their attention, the world will be their oyster. Cooler cell phones, better laptops and new cars will be theirs for the asking. The parents will go broke trying to over-compensate.

The fact that the boomer divorce rate is triple that of their parents’ generation as no surprise. I cannot think a single person in my immediate circle of friends or acquaintances that is not currently or has not been divorced – myself included.

Contentment seems to continually elude us in love and life doesn’t it?

We always want more money, more stuff and of course more sex. While we are busy screwing around, we are screwing up BIG time!

We cheat.
We get caught.
We get divorced.
We lose our kids.
We lose our money.
We lose our stuff.
We start all over again.

Or…we just end up weary of the game – tired, broke and alone. No commitment, no stability,
no future.

It is a dismal ending to a glamorous and fascinating generation.

We had it all but threw it away on a whim!
