Was Tiger Playing In The Rough?

00:51 by · 2 Comments

By now everyone has heard the latest rumors.

Yes, Tiger Woods, apparently everyone’s favorite golf pro, was caught letting others play with his putter!

Talk about bad golf etiquette!

So what’s new? Nothing!

As always, the report of this celebrity sexcapade has been immediately followed by a rush of unsolicited public opinion from “morally perfect people” like “Cheryl“:

“The very sad part about all this is that he was a role model to so many and now has lost that respect. It doesn’t matter what happened in his marriage – if he doesn’t want to be married (and be faithful), then he should have gotten out of the marriage before he started fooling around. And what a great example he is setting for his children and so many young men and women who look up to him! “Strength of character” seems to have deserted him. Unfortunately, when you sign on to be a celebrity, your privacy goes out the window. He knows that and there is no excuse for the bad judgement he has shown.”

Hmmm…fortunately, Cheryl is not of celebrity stature or we would all be digging up bones in her backyard! But, since she’s not, we don’t give a damn what she does. Lucky her!

Unfortunately, Tiger Woods and his family do not have the luxury of obscurity. Tiger didn’t “sign on” to be a celebrity – it was imposed on him by us because of his golf talent. Did he chose to be a role model for us? No, we “assigned” him that privilege because of our fascination with him.

We seem to have a pathetic habit of expecting from our heroes that which we cannot accomplish ourselves – perfection.

Tiger, like anyone else is human. Humans make mistakes. Has he lost respect as a role model? Why should he? Does infidelity erase everything else that you are and have become? Does it change the fact that you are a great golfer? A good provider? A good father? A good son? A nice person?

I don’t think his strength of character has left him either. More than ever, it will carry him through the next few weeks of our endless prying into something that is really none of our damned business to start with!

My thoughts?

Cheryl – if you have never been tempted, wavered from the truth or failed to lead by good example, my hat is off to you.

You are my new role model.

Tiger – stay out of the rough and ask your wife if you can take a mulligan.

Good luck!

I am very surprised by the attitude everyone is taking at this.

This is the 21st century and we are (supposed to be) in an egalitarian world.

Use a method that was quite rightly promoted by the feminist movement. Reverse the sexes in the story and look at your own attitudes.

If a female celebrity was discovered to be cheating on her husband would it be acceptable for the husband to beat her? Answer that question honestly and you will learn a lot about yourself and the world you inhabit.

And, after getting a beating with a golf club would it be reasonable for the female celebrity to make a press statement saying it was all her own fault?

BTW That Woods is large / male / an athlete etc is irrelevant. Being bashed in the head with a golf club will bring down anyone and is (ought to be) unacceptable. Domestic violence is not funny. It is violence.

Simon, I couldn’t agree with your comments more. Dead on.

Our society looks so harshly against men when they commit this sin(not saying they shouldn’t), but God forbid we look at women the same way, even though statistics show that women are right up there with men with infidelity.

When a man cheats, he’s just some out-of-control “dog” looking for some excitement.

When a woman cheats, it’s somehow almost always viewed as all the mans fault, almost like women can do no wrong or are justified somehow when they commit the SAME sin.

Talk about your BS double standards.

Bottom line is Tiger wasn’t the only one given a Mulligan by Florida Police that night. She should have probably been charged with assault and battery, but wasn’t.
