It Ain't Over 'Til the Mobile Phone Sales Guy Sings!
As I watched this video of Paul Potts, a humble mobile phone salesman, singing opera in the "Britain’s Got Talent"! contest, I just knew I had to work it into my site. Incidentally, I discovered Paul's video through my friend's blog BobWilloughby.com.
I know it is a stretch trying to fit an opera video into a site about infidelity but I had to try because Paul Potts is such a typical example of how we as humans constantly misjudge each other.
Well, what did you think? You have to appreciate Paul's talent even if you dislike opera.
You know, often the victims of infidelity struggle quietly by themselves long after the relationship has ended and the cheater has moved on, seemly unaffected by the destruction they have caused.
I am speaking from experience here!
When my husband left me, my self esteem took a major shit kicking to put it bluntly. I felt that something had to be wrong with me, otherwise, why would my husband of 15 years have left me? (It is interesting to note here that as late as December 27, 2007, and two failed relationships later, my ex-husband called me to again say that he was sorry for the terrible mistake he made when he walked out on his daughter and me. Thirteen years later, it is of little consolation to anyone!)
Anyway…
My lack of confidence and low self esteem prevented me from "getting out there" to find new love. My husband's rejection had such a profound effect on me that it took years (I'm slow, what can I say?) to recover. Still, I have residual doubts from time to time.
The trouble is, that while I was protecting myself from the possibility of further rejection by retreating from the world, I have been growing older. Bummer!
Now I find that I am ready to love again but low and behold, although I still feel 30, my "mirror, mirror on the wall" says otherwise! I don't require a bag over my head just yet but with every wrinkle and dimple that I develop as I approach 50 another door closes. It is unfair because I still have much to offer a partner if they could just see beyond the surface.
While I am certain that there is someone wonderful out there for me, I have yet to find him. My experiences in the dating arena these days are far removed from what I remember in my youth. Many middle aged men still believe that they are "studly" and entitled to a "babe". They forget that once the lust wears off, they have no more in common with their "hot tamale" than a cat does with a bath water.
They don't look beyond the surface!
That's the message that came to mind as I watched Paul Potts, the quiet little mobile phone salesman blow the hair back on the judges as he sang opera at the UK competition, "Britain’s Got Talent"!
His insecurity and lack of self confidence have long prevented him from sharing a truly marvelous gift with the world. If you were to judge this book by the cover, the chances are great that it would never be read, yet look what lies beneath!
Paul Potts is absolutely fabulous! Hell, I got all misty eyed watching this video all the while thinking "yes guy - you GO!"…and I don't even care for opera music! The standing ovation was so deserved and the expressions on the faces of the judges were priceless. Of course, I have always rooted for the underdog and am delighted when someone blows Simon Cowell out of the water!
Just goes to show you…
It ain't over 'til the fat, mobile phone sales guy sings!
So, to sum up my ramblings here…
There are a lot of single, lonely, terrific people out there approaching mid-life. Like books, perhaps if we looked between the pages rather than judging by the cover, we would discover how truly marvelous each other really are!
